PUSH Physical Theatre, Rochester, New York, USA

Gravity defying PUSH Physical Theatre has been called a cross between fine art sculpture and the hit movie “The Matrix.” This theatre of the body features professional performers cross-trained in modern dance, acrobatics, drama, corporeal mime and non-traditional partnering, and allows them to tell a more concrete narrative than other dance forms. The technique manipulates both time and space. Slow motion highlights important plot developments, simultaneous scenes elicit symbolism and rotating angles offer the audience a fresh perspective. Experiencing PUSH is like encountering fine art unbound.

PUSH Physical Theatre’s unique form has transformed it into a national company that has performed all over England, across the United States and Mexico and appeared on PBS and NPR. Founded by veteran movement artists Darren and Heather Stevenson, the husband and wife team share a belief of breaking barriers in traditional theater and incorporating any movement that speaks to the audience. If the perfect method doesn’t exist, they invent it.
