Ramesh Meyyappan, UK/Singapore
US Premiere
Edgar Allen Poe’s narrative style and explicit
images serve as resources for Ramesh Meyyappan in this
striking visual theatre interpretation of Baltimore’s
favorite son. Ramesh explores primal fear, the inevitability
of death, desperation, power, and paranoia in these beautifully
crafted pieces. Ramesh’s adaptations go beyond
literal translations of Poe’s writing forming an
eclectic mix of visual and physical styles which reverberate
in dark characters and sinister plots. Ramesh is storytelling
in purely visual form.
Ramesh Meyyappan was a director, teacher, and actor
with Dramaplus Arts in Singapore. Prior to finishing
his degree at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts
in the Unikted Kingdon, he was Artistic Director of Singapore’s
Hi! Theatre. Recently Ramesh completed a tour of his
adaptation of Dario Fo’s Mistero Buffo which
included America, Singapore, Austria, UK and Sweden.
A versatile practitioner Ramesh has also presented workshops
on visual theatre and its various forms.
