Dario Fo’s Mistero Buffo and Swept Away appear on the same program.

A drunk, power-crazy pope, a cripple riding piggyback on a blind man, and Jesus walk into a theatre, but only one man shows up on stage. This may sound like the setup to a very bad joke but it’s the basic outline of Dario Fo’s brilliantly funny Mistero Buffo. Performed as a one-man show by Ramesh Meyyappan, one of Singapore’s most versatile and respected physical actors, this version interacts with the audience through silent banter and beautifully sensitive physicality.

A graduate of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Ramesh Meyyappan is a multi-faceted performer, director, producer and teacher. Ramesh has created solo performances including Mistero Buffo & A Woman Alone (featured at QuestFest Fringe) and Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart & The Masque of the Red Death (featured at QuestFest 2006). He has also collaborated with other artists co-developing This Side Up (also featured at QuestFest 2006) and The Art of War. Ramesh developed his latest solo venture ‘Gin & Tonic and Passing Trains’ in Scotland with the support of The Tramway (Glasgow) before being presented as part of Esplanade Theatre Studios Season (Singapore). Ramesh recently toured extensively throughout the Scandinavian countries with a Swedish production of The Odyssey.
