 Rainman Returns

Max-i-mime
Canada

Production PhotoIn his stage show called “Rainman Returns” Max Fomitchev uses prop manipulation and physical comedy to unravel the journey of a downtrodden lost man who recreates a dance with his lost love.

Max portrays a simple man caught up in a world he doesn’t fully understand.  He bounces from positions of insensitivity, loss, gambler, and egotist…until he finally learns that love is the only thing he really wanted, and sometimes when you lose something you never quite get it back.

With a touching and funny narrative, Max uses physical comedy and prop manipulation to tell a silent story that takes the audience to an emotional place we can all relate to.

Deaf, Russian, Jewish, Mime … Max has been called many things … mostly brilliant!

Max Fomitchev, known around the world as Max-i-mime, started his mime career at the age of 13 in Moscow Russia.  Max was plucked as a young protégé to Joseph Schneiderman of the Mirror Mime Company of Moscow.  An amazing and well-studied mime artist, Max was frequently the only deaf performer in his advanced classes.  Max went on to win the prestigious National Mime awards, and was the youngest student, as well as the only deaf competitor to do so.

After graduating at the top of his class receiving his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Drama from Schukin University in Moscow, Max was recruited by the Zakutok Players.  With this eclectic theatre group he performed around the former Soviet Union, Taiwan, Germany, Spain, England, the USA and Canada.  Max’s incredible talent gave him opportunities most of his peers where denied, but the growing anti-Semitism in Russia made Max fear the limited future his homeland had laid out for him.

Zakutok was invited to Deaf Way in Washington, D.C., in 1989, and that empowering experience changed Max forever. Two years later, he defected from Russia to live in Vancouver.

It was a struggle to reestablish himself in this new land, but again his talent stood out. He built a reputation for his physical performances and his hilarious expressions on stage, and broke into the U.S. film industry in Canada landing small roles on TV series, commercials and a feature film “Saving Silverman”
